History The Arts
Alliance Center at Clear Lake was born in 1997 when volunteer and arts patron
Kay Taylor Burnett created and funded a non-profit organization representing
the collaborative group, the Alliance for the Arts. In 2000, Warren and Kay
Burnett donated the multi-million dollar, two-story building at 2000 NASA
Parkway, which is the Center's current location. Prior to the advent of The Arts Alliance Center at Clear Lake,
areas between the City of Houston and Galveston Island lacked unified cultural
development, especially within the bounds of 32 small municipalities at the
edges of Harris, Galveston and Brazoria counties. As Houston's Bay Area has
grown and developed, the Center has provided a focus for arts and
culture. The Center offers a diverse program of exhibits,
performances, free art workshops for children, free monthly jazz workshops as
well as affordable classes in visual, performing and literary arts. By
partnering with area educational and artistic organizations The Arts Alliance
Center at Clear Lake has become an important resource for over 26,000 artists,
patrons and students annually. |
